The Artist

Fine Art Portraits have been created by Richard Koeneman for over 50 years. Koeneman strives to create that family heirloom of an exact likeness that will last for many generations. He is well known as a painter of fine art portraits and as an art teacher.

After meeting Norman Rockwell in 1964, his life was never the same. Rockwell invited him to have dinner with him and after 2 hours of inspiring conversation, Koeneman decided to study art and leave his job as a chemist.

Fine Art Portraits became his favorite subject matter as he received much experience in drawing and painting portraits in the display windows of Sears, Penneys and a Santa Monica, Ca. portrait shop. After drawing and painting hundreds of fine art portraits, he has become skilled in getting an exact likeness that looks alive.

Koeneman studied Art at the Ft. Wayne Art School, Indiana-Purdue and received a masters degree in Art from St. Francis University. He paints Fine Art Portraits from photographs and when possible will finish the portrait with the subject posing. Koeneman has been conducting Private Art Classes for more than 35 years as well as teaching in the Public School System for more than 25 years. He has had many students that have been very successful in profiting from portrait commissions.

Although Fine Art Portraits are his speciality, subject matter may include still life, landscapes, wildlife, dogs, cats, pets of all kinds, realism and non-realism. Art Classes are tailored for the needs and interests of the students living in the Ft. Wayne, Indiana and surrounding areas. Workshops are designed for students living at greater distances. In helping people pursue their dreams, teaching is very gratifying for Koeneman, but the most satisfaction is in creating that fine art portrait that is passed down generation to generation.
